Seven Hills over Lockland in D4 Playoffs

The #1 and #2 seeds in the SW district of Division Four met Tuesday night for a chance to play against New Knoxville, the number one D4 team in the state. The 23-1 Lockland Tigers squared off against the 22-1 Seven Hills Stingers, just like they did on January 4th and in that game, Seven Hills reigned victorious in a home turf win. So it was payback time in the minds of many Lockland fans.

Lockland started well, gaining the upper hand at the half with a four point lead, but after an even third quarter, fell in the fourth.  Seven Hills outscored Lockland 11-4 in the final stanza for a 40-37 win. As the Cincinnati Enquirer reported, Lockland didn’t score in the last 5:30 of the game.  At that mark, Lockland got a 37-36 lead off a Ricardo Maxwell layup, but never saw their basket again.

Seven Hills –
Drew Kohn – 2008 SG – Shot 4-11 from the field and hit just 1-5 from deep, but had 6 rebounds a block and two steals to help his team. Missed his first but hit his second trey and played confidently after that. Lockland focused on his outside shooting on defense.

Jake Davis – 2010  F -  This budding soph shows promise and heart. Was 5-6 from the field and grabbed 4 rebs. Doesn’t mind battling in the paint or diving for loose balls. Looks to be either a PF or SF down the road. Will need to add more strength.

Fran Chatfield – 2010  PG – Seven Hills’ best ball handler hit an important three from the corner late to spring his team forward. Had two layups and a 10 footer on his way to nine pts, 3 rebs and 5 huge assts. He’s a player many may not notice until the final score sheet is printed.

Lockland -
Mike Dorris  -  came off the bench to score 10 important points on 5-10 shooting (no layups) plus grabbed 8 reb’s. Showed himself early by making the first three jumpshots in quick succession.

Ricardo Maxwell – 2010 G – showed flashes of brilliance on some drives to the basket. Has good feet and an effortless shot. Needs a ‘killer instinct’ to move his game forward. Shot 3-7 overall and hit two of his three trey attempts, one from 25 feet to beat the halftime buzzer. Had 10 pts, one reb and two assts.  Only had two FT attempts and could have had more if he would drive the paint more.

AJ Letcher – 2008 F – Was 3-9 on the night, missing 3 five foot jumpers that hurt. Had six pts and six rebs.

Adonnis White – Got his second foul in the first qtr and had to sit. But had a block of a Kohn trey attempt late that looked like it may have fired up his team late. Finished with 5 pts and one reb.
