Josh Hart Garning Interest!

With many of Arizona's top targets from the 2008 class still remainning unsigned this spring, Brophy Prep High School's 6-foot-4 senior guard Jeff Hart is beginning to garner significant college interest from several schools for his services next fall.

Jeff Hart has several schools showing interest this spring.Arizona Preps caught up with Hart this week about his current recruitment, and he informed us that he is currently hearing from several schools that have shown serious interest in him as of late.

According to Hart, he advised us that the University of Denver has contacted him recently and told him that they have atleast one scholarship still available and that they may decide to use it to offer the talented combo guard. Hart also advised us that William & Mary and Fairfield have also shown significant interest in him as of late, and that he is very interested in each school.

One of the top prospects in the country just two years ago (2006) was Deer Valley High School graduate Christian Polk.

Christian Polk gets release from Arizona State.As a high school performer, Polk was rated as high as #19 nationally by Rivals.com, and was among the top recruited young prospects in the country. Polk gave a verbal pledge to Arizona State and former head coach Rob Evans during the spring of 2005, even though, at the time, many in the media had spoken of Evans' future at Arizona State.

With the majority of Arizona's top performers from the 2008 class already having made their decisions for schools next fall, Precision High School's 6-foot-8, 215-pound senior post player Ricky Calvin is looking for a college home.

Ricky Calvin is deciding between junior colleges.Calvin's athletic high school career has come to an end, while he is still completing his academic portion of it. Calvin began his high school career at South Mountain HS as a freshman, but then transfered to Precision HS, a local charter school located in South Phoenix, as a sophomore. This year as a senior, Calvin transfered to Mount Zion Prep in the fall, before returning back home just weeks later.

St Xavier Over Withrow: Player Evals (Free Article)

St Xavier beat Withrow at the Cintas Center today to earn a trip to the state D1 Final Four. St X will play Friday Mar 14th at 5:15pm for a berth in the championship game.

X combined some clutch FT shooting and some timely rebounds to earn the 52-51 win. Yancy Gates, in his final game before becoming a Cincinnati Bearcat, missed two FT’s with two seconds on the clock, preventing the Withrow win, or at least an overtime session.

Its too bad that the game ended with the two missed FT’s. Many on press row admitted that they wanted Gates to hit one of the two, so that the game would go into overtime – it was that good of a game.

St Xavier

Walt Gibler 2008 PF - This Loyola of Illinois signee scored 9 pts on 3 of 10 shooting from the field, had six rebounds and five assists.

Brad Loesing 2008 PG - The Wofford signee had 14 pts on 5 of 9 shooting. This kid is just a winner who knows how to lead his team. His five assts were offset by five turnovers, but his leadership and poise were an important facet to the X win.

Steve Stefanou 2008 C - This University of Chicago signee scored five pts and grabbed two rebs. He was strong on defense helping defend man child Gates.

Tom Williams 2008 PF – Williams was big all game long hitting several big shots scoring 10 pts on 5 of 7 from the field. Also did decent job helping guard Gates in St Xavier’s 2-3 zone. Williams is attending the U of Chicago with Stefanou.

Withrow

Yancy Gates 2008 PF – Gates finished with 16 pts and 5 rebs in 29 mins of playing time. He scored just four points in the first half and came on strong late in the game when in some quick sequences he had a dunk, two FT’s and a layup with two X players draped on him. He was getting double teamed when an entry pass looked possible, or after he caught it. He had his usual Yancy-like game: when he chose to work hard, he succeeded.

Notes: reb, got blocked, 5 ft jumper, push shot mss, 18’ miss, alley oop failed, reb, putback, steal. Second half: reb, dunk, two FT’s, block, reb, layup, dunk, two FT’s, layup, the two missed FT’s at the end.,

Troy Long 2008 SG – Long came out like gang busters helping Withrow to the early 13-6 lead with three treys. He made 4-8 on the game. He had three steals and was 2-2 from the line and finished with 18 pts, leading his team.

Chris Grimes 2008 C – Big Chris had just two made FT’s in the scoring column but did grab 7 of Withrow’s 17 total rebounds.

Ron Bracey 2008 SF – Bracey had 5 pts but no rebs, which was a negative for Withrow from their SF.

Anthony McBride 2008 PG – McBride, having been a highly ranked player for years finished his career with 8 pts, one reb, 4 assts and three TO’s. All of his points were on layups and will have to improve his outside shooting to perform well at the college level.

Both teams shot 5-11 from the three point line

Barry Cobb 2010 PG - This super quick PG plays the wing on this team because Butler runs the PG spot for NCH, but Cobb projects to be a PG in college. He had a big game scoring 22 in three quarters. He has sweet stroke from everywhere. Still needs to work on playing under control. LM

Zach Kauth 2008 PF - This player had a great game in the paint scoring on athletic layups, dunks, and put backs. He was also a monster on the glass and defense. The CJ half court trap succeeded using his athletic ability and his long arms. Scored 14 pts in limited mins due to game being blow out. Kauth needs to improve his perimeter game to provide a balanced skill set. We still feel he's a D3+ and that D2/NAIA's should take a look at this player.

Due to the fact this was a total mismatch in talent, the evals will be shorter than normal and most of Dunbar's top players played limited min's. The two time defending Ohio D2 state champs are loaded again this year and have a good chance to make another run at getting to Columbus. Note: Former Dunbar and Ohio St star and current 76'er Daequan Cook was in the house to support his former HS team.

Zach Kauth 2008 PF - This is one of the more intriguing players in this game. He came away with huge cut above his eye after an inadvertent head butt and had to leave the gamefor a bit. He can score well in the paint put we didn't see much from the perimeter. Has decent handles and can score off the drive. Smart player who passes well and is surprisingly athletic. Late in the game he threw down a very impressive two hand slam that had the crowd buzzing. He's a hard player to put a level on but D2 and NAIA's should take a look.

Jake Mays 2008 C - This was our first look at this talented young player. This big man scored 9 pts and had several boards. He's a smart player who also is a good passer, but doesnt run great and isnt athletic. D3

Chris Hardy 2008 SF - This stocky kid isnt a great athlete but he can score. He led his team with 14 pts in this game. Scored most of his pts in the paint or on drives.Also has nice spin dribble. D3-

Juwan Staten 2010 PG - With XU coach Sean Miller in the house, Staten started of slowly missing hi first six shots but Miller had to be impressed with 30 pts Staten eventually scored. We are not as high on this player as others are as he took alot of shots to get his 30. He may not be as tall as his listed 5-10 and doesnt get his teammates involved as much as he could, but he is only a 10th grader. We feel he'll end up at the MM+ level or likely a MAC-type schools. All schools at that level should recruit him.
